This supposingly new dance style that was (re)discovered in the ghettos from L.A. actually originates from the traditional dances and rituals of the African warriors. Even the make up that is typical for the clowning or clown dancing how crumping is also called resembles the facial (make up) of that one from the African fighters. Crumping is very much charakterized by dynamic inner movements and a flexible upper body. When the dancers start to battle against each other one can expect explosive outbreaks, that due to the aggressive movements almost look like real street fights – that is just the good thing about it, that nobody gets seriously hurt or shot but might only fall into a trancelike state from which he or she will wake up again a couple minutes later.
Olando who also studied traditional African dance for many years in his home country, even made it to be an accepted member of the “National TV Ensemble” – a showgroup that is made up by the best dancers from Ghana. Therefore he learned what is today called crumping already from his childhood on.
“It is funny, something that you see as your normal routine is one day rediscovered and renamed by some producer and then all of a sudden everybody believes it is something completely new and innovative.” (Olando)
Therefore everybody who would like to learn the original moves and techniques found the right teacher by us!
